Renowned Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has credited her success in the entertainment industry solely to God, asserting that no one else can take credit for her rise to stardom.

Speaking at the 2025 Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN) event, Akindele reflected on her journey, acknowledging the challenges she faced and the resilience that kept her going.

She emphasized that her breakthrough came through divine guidance, especially when creating her iconic character, Jenifa. “I am who I am today because of God.

Nobody made me a star, only God did,” she said, recalling how she trusted God’s direction when she needed to reinvent herself and write her own scripts.

Akindele, famous for her role in Jenifa and its spin-offs, also discussed the importance of adaptability in the ever-evolving entertainment industry.

“This journey has not been easy, but I have learned to stay focused and keep evolving,” she noted, highlighting how she balanced capitalizing on the Jenifa brand while expanding her craft. With God’s strength, she remains determined to continue pushing forward in her career.
