The recent power outages plaguing Ghana, colloquially known as “Dumsor,” have been misattributed to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However, a closer examination of the facts reveals that the previous government, led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) under leadership of Akufo Addo, is largely responsible for this predicament.

Ghana’s power generation relies on these primary sources: hydro, thermal energy. Thermal energy, in particular, utilizes gas or crude oil and diesel.

The Gas is usually sourced from either Atuabo or Nigeria. Currently, the Atuabo source is undergoing maintenance, leaving Nigeria as the primary supplier. Unfortunately, the NPP’s legacy of fiscal mismanagement has resulted in substantial debts owed to Nigerian suppliers, hindering their willingness to provide the necessary gas.

Staggeringly, one company alone is owed over $120 million in diesel supply for power plants. This monumental debt burden, inherited by the NDC, is a direct consequence of the NPP’s reckless governance.

The NDC, barely three months into office, is working tirelessly to restore the economy and revitalize the country’s infrastructure.

It’s essential to recognize the stark contrast between the two parties’ ideologies and governance styles.

The NDC advocates for social democracy and government intervention, focusing on public investment and social welfare programs. In contrast, the NPP champions free-market principles and private sector-led growth, often prioritizing economic growth over social welfare.

In light of these facts, the NPP’s attempts to deflect blame onto the NDC are unfounded. The current power challenges are a direct result of the NPP’s fiscal irresponsibility and lack of foresight. Undoubtedly, as the NDC continues to navigate these challenges, it’s crucial for Ghanaians to hold the previous government accountable for their actions. The country’s progress depends on acknowledging and learning from past mistakes, rather than perpetuating misinformation and blame-shifting.#Resetting Agenda is in full swing#
