Ghana’s gold production is expected to exceed 5 million ounces in 2025, according to projections by the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
The outlook comes after a robust recovery in 2023, when Ghana reclaimed its position as Africa’s leading gold producer. Domestic output rose by 32%, reaching 3.7 million ounces, up from 2.8 million in 2021.
Acting CEO of the Chamber, Ahmed Dasana Nantogmah, emphasized the importance of strategic initiatives like the government’s Goldbod programme in boosting foreign exchange earnings and promoting sustainable mining.
“In terms of function, what Goldbod promises looks good on paper. As a Chamber, we have a representative on the board, and we aim to support efforts that make mining more sustainable,” he said.
He noted that about 40% of Ghana’s gold comes from the small-scale mining sector, which significantly contributes to foreign exchange earnings. “For 2025, we are projecting output over 5 million ounces,” Nantogmah added.
He made these remarks on the sidelines of the 2025 West African Mining and Power Expo in Accra.
