Former President John Mahama has stated that the transformation Ghanaians seek will take effect if people willingly sacrificed for the good of the nation.

John Mahama opined that there is currently a sense of national cynicism among Ghanaians reflected in the utterances and posture of people who interact on media platforms.

The leader of the NDC asserted that the picture depicted that Ghana is far from being a developed nation that can compete with other advanced countries could be changed for better.

He was of the view that just like in the life of most nations, the current generation of Ghanaians ought to stand up and work with optimism to create the kind of future that is desired by many.

“Let us discard our sense of national cynicism. Indeed it is disheartening when you listen to our discourse on radios and TVs you will think that this country is worse than any country in this world and indeed you will think that our country is something hole as some country have described us to be but we should have a sense of national optimism and that is what has made those countries what they are because the generations that worked to make those countries what they are had a hope that their countries will be better based on the sacrifices that they were making. If you look at the history of any country there’s a generation that sacrificed for the country to reach where they have reached. So in Ghana we need to make that generational sacrifice if our country should have a bright future for our children and great-grandchildren,” the NDC Presidential aspirant for 2020 explained.

The NDC Flagbearer said these when he addressed a congregation at the Perez Chapel in Dzorwulu where the NDC had gone for a thanksgiving service after a successful presidential race.

Addressing the congregants, Bishop Aginasre noted that Ghana’s derailed to a large extent has been derailed by partisanship a situation he cautioned does not augur well for the nation.

He urged those gathered to always put the nation first in all their activities and seek the country’s interest.
Buttressing the point made by Bishop Agyinasare, head pastor of Perez Chapel International, Former President Mahama cited the lack of political will to continue progress and projects started by previous governments is a clear indication of the polarized nature of Ghanaian space.

The NDC leader observed that it has become a normal tendency for governments to play the blame game for the first part of their tenure until they are faced with the reality of the next election before they start to act.

“And as Bishop said, our country is politically polarized. Our partisanship is too extreme and that is part of the reason for our one step forward, two step back. A new government comes into power and everything the previous government did is wrong. We inherited a mess, we did this, this didn’t happen and so we continue to pass the back and pass the blame instead of taking the good things that the previous government did and continue to build on it. They keep looking back for two years and by the time you see the next election is in front of you so yes we are polarized and our partisanship is extreme,” John Mahama disclosed.

Former President Mahama emerged the overwhelming choice of the over 300, 000 delegates that visited the 276 constituencies to cast their vote.

Mahama beat competition from 6 others obtaining 95% of the votes cast making him the leader of the party going into the 2020 elections.

Former President Mahama lost by close to a million votes in 2016 to the governing party’s then-candidate and now president Akufo-Addo in his re-election bid.

The party organised the thanksgiving service which brought bigwigs together and a host of party sympathisers.
