An aspiring Constituency Secretary for the Ablekuma North Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Frederick Green has charged the leadership of the country to make available opportunities for the youth to partake in decision making in the country.

According to him, decisions that are taken have both direct and indirect effects on the youth as such it will only be fair for them to be part of that which will shape their future and that of the country.

He said the only way the skills and talents of the youth can be [ads1]appreciated will be for them to take up leadership roles in their various political parties and break from the syndrome of “he/she is too young for the role.”

He explained that the youths are going to take charge of the country in the near future as such the need to tap into such talents. He noted that if such talents are not nurtured now it could lead to failure for the country.

Sharing his experience with Awake News’ Patricia Norvisi Gbologah, he indicated that he lost elections twice because he was tagged as not being old enough for the position. He encouraged the youth to get involved to better the future of the country.

The Ablekuma North Constituency NPP Secretary hopeful said the youth comprises 65 percent of the country’s population as such the country will be the ultimate beneficiary if it encourages its youth to participate in its political processes.

“A country that wants to go far will bring on board its youth. And it is for a good cause to be ambitious and if you don’t have any ambition you are destined for failure as an individual and a nation.” – He said

He noted that the few years past has seen an improvement in youth participation in governance with some young adults being appointed as Deputy Ministers in the past and current government.

Mr. Green indicated that most of the youth have been relegated to the background because of their age. “No wonder quite a number of them [youth] end up hiding away their anguish in drugs and alcohol” he stated.

He charged the leadership of the country to make way for an all-inclusive system where the youth can learn from the experience of the elderly ones.

He challenged the youth to be actively involved in political decision-making by seizing the opportunity to take up leadership positions whenever the opportunity is presented to them.
