Popular Ghanaian rapper OJ Blaq, known in real life as Andy Nii Akrashie, has passed on. He reportedly died in the early hours of Thursday, at age 40.
According to unconfirmed reports, the rapper had been battling kidney disease since 2016, which he fought with dialysis treatments, among other things.
OJ Blaq’s debut album, ‘The Blaq Mixtape,’ was released in 2006, and he has since risen to prominence with several music projects and singles, including the popular track “Chalewote.”
In 2022, he revealed the lifestyle changes he had to make in order maintain good health. He transitioned to gospel, explaining that it was not an easy transition.
Aside from his music career, the deceased appeared in a number of Ghanaian films, most notably the renowned ‘Suncity’ television series.
Colleagues in the entertainment industry have been expressing their condolences for the late rapper on social media.
“R.I.P. to the first musician to ever walk into the Lynx Studio to record his music. U will always be remembered for [your] kind heart and [your] ability to put a smile on so many faces,” Lynx Entertainment said in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
