Ghana’s male tennis team,”The Golden Rackets”, yesterday left the shores of Ghana for Egypt to participate in the 2021 Davis Cup -African Zone 3.
After series of training sessions and trial matches in assessing their Singles and Doubles games, the team is finally made up of Samuel Agbesi Antwi, Benjamin Palm, Japheth Bagerbaseh, with Frederick Egyir as team captain and coach.
From Wednesday, 11th to 14th August, 2021, the Golden Rackets will lock horns with participating countries like Rwanda, Mozambique, Benin, Kenya, Algeria, Madagascar and host nation, Egypt on the Clay surface at the Smash Tennis Academy in Cairo, Egypt, for a place at the 2022 World Group 2 play offs.
Tournament Format
This year’s Davis Cup- African Zone 3 in Egypt will have Mozambique, Ghana, Benin, Algeria, Madagascar, Rwanda and Egypt in a “TWO POOL”- Round robin format, with the final two nations advancing from African Group 3 to participate in the 2022 Davis Cup World Group 2 play offs.

One of the four teams and one of the three countries will play each other team in their group.
Nations’ finishing in the top of each group will do a play-off for promotion, with winner of group A, facing the runner up of group B, whiles group B winner faces the runner up in group A.
Two teams finishing third in their groups will enter a relegation play-off, with the beaten team joining the team, placing Fourth in the contesting African Zone 4 in 2022.
Ghana has ranked ranked No. 6 in the tournament.
“DAVIS CUP” tournament is the male version of the ” BILLIE JEAN KING CUP” tournament.
