Social and democracy activist, Oliver Berker-Vormawor has reacted to the US Court ruling that awarded Ghana’s undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas US$18m in damages against former Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Berker-Vormawor sees Ghana as “just the next bus stop before Hell”.
Anas filed the case at the Essex County Superior Court, New Jersey in the United States of America arguing that the former lawmaker severely damaged his reputation when he said he Anas was a blackmailer, murderer, and thief during a September 7, 2021, interview on The Daddy Fred Show
If readers can recall, Anas filed a similar case against the millionaire and NPP bankroller in Ghana but lost when Justice Eric Baah ruled against him saying the investigative journalist is indeed a blackmailer and extortionist.
The Ghanaian High Court Judge while delivering his ruling in 2023 said
I hold that the plaintiff is a blackmailer who uses blackmail to extort money from his opponents and people he does not like,” Justice Baah noted.
What the plaintiff is doing is not investigative journalism but investigative terrorism,” he stated.
He, therefore, went ahead to dismiss the defamation suit filed by Anas against the then Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
