GHACEM, the state own cement manufacturing company is expected to reduced its cement price from GH₵ 120 to GH₵ 82 due to the appreciation of Ghana Cedis against the major international trading currencies.
Though there is no official statement from the company on the price adjustments, Ghanaian social media users have taken to various pages to jubilate over the news.
In 2016, under the Mahama administration, a bag of cement sold for just Gh¢30 and the Ghana Cedis was also sold at GHc4.20 per dollar at the time that the NDC left power.
However, by the end of 2024, under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia the product price has increased it to GH¢120 and a dollar went to GHc17.
It is worth noting that this news of the price reduction from GH¢120 to ¢82 (31.67% decrease) is coming in just four and a half months after President Mahama is back in office with the dollar also moving from GHc17 to GHc12.44 as of today.
