According to the GFA, these new developmental national teams are in fulfillment of the National Football Philosophy. It is geared towards the full implementation of Ghana’s football strategy and philosophy.

The FA is set to form four new developmental national teams for boys and five for girls. As a result, there will be national U-16, U-18, U-19, and U-21 boys teams and U-16, U-18, U-19, U-21, and U-23 girls teams. There is already an U-15 side for both males and females, which has been set up as developmental teams to feed the U-17 in both categories.

This development will not only ensure a smooth transition of players from one age group to the next but also ensure Ghana does not lose out on its talents on the national front. Additionally, the GFA says the new arrangement will “also offer a lot more of our trained coaches (using the DNA) opportunities at the elite level.”

Already in existence are the senior male and female national teams, U17 and U-20 for girls and boys, as well as the U-23 male team. All the current teams are eligible to participate in competitions organized by CAF and FIFA.
