[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Ghanaian movie industry is one of the oldest in Africa. It has evolved over time and now dominated by the Twi dialect movies popularly known as “Kumawood” followed by Nigerian movies and Ghanaian English dialect movies “Gallywood”.
Awake ShowBiz came across this young man – Mr. Gershon Ntsri who says he has all it takes to bring a new flavour into the Ghanaian movie industry through the production and promotion of Ewe dialect movies which he tells Awake ShowBiz has a bigger market as compare to Twi movies.
“The Ewe movie industry has a huge market, Volta Region, Togo, Benin and Ewes abroad” – He noted
When asked what basically inspired him to venture into the Ewe movie industry in a country that is dominated by Akan speaking (Twi), this is what Mr. Ntrsi has to say:
“I decided to produce Ewe movies when I realized that Nigerian movies are being translated into Ewe language and being sold to the Ewe community. Also, the prospects of job creation and poverty alleviation motivated me to go into Ewe movies. Our market is bigger than the Akan’s market, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Ewe citizens abroad.
The optimistic and determined young man says, “Though it’s difficult getting support for the Ewe movies, I am optimistic about reaching the top with time”
Mr. Ntsri says, irrespective of lack of financial support for his previous movies already produced, he always had “quality first” in mind and that is what has distinguished his projects from any local movies on the market.
“My movies are of high quality and wanted nationally and internationally. I, however, have no support so I am doing the marketing in my small way” – He told Awake ShowBiz in an interview.
He believes if he gets partners and investors for his movies, the sky will be his starting point.
