Seven individuals, namely Ibrahim Dauda, Michael Tettey Komlorm, Douglas Ayambila, Elvis Aborta, Nsoh Oto alias Agorogo, Kwadwo George alias Sergio, and Emmanuel Van alias Atta, have been arraigned before the Special Court for Illegal Mining in Sekondi, for their alleged complicity in illicit mining activities.
The accused face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and undertaking mining activities without a license, marking a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing crusade against illegal mining.
The Western Central Regional Police Command’s arrest of the seven individuals demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating the scourge of illegal mining, which has plagued Ghana’s environment and economy. The accused have been remanded into prison custody, pending their reappearance before the court on April 17, 2025.
In a related development, two Chinese nationals, Huan Ciongjian, 38, and Ling Yong, 56, were apprehended for engaging in illegal mining activities along the banks of the Bonsa River. The duo has been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further action, as part of the government’s efforts to address the issue of foreign nationals involved in illegal mining activities.
