President Nana Akufo Addo has blatantly told the owners of galamsay excavators and the section of Ghanaians who are against the burning of these machines to go to court if they’re against his style of fighting the glamasay menace.
The majority of Ghanaians have kicked against the burning of sized excavators, arguing that they can put to use by the Assemblies in the construction of roads and dredging of gutters, amongst others. Some are also of the view that the excavators can be used in the reclamation of the destroyed lands, which will save the country from extra cost and also prevent air pollution.
But speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony in Accra on Wednesday 26th May 2021 for the construction of a new school complex for the Ghana School of Law, President Akufo-Addo stated that the government is fighting illegal mining without any political or ethnic, considerations.
” know there are some who believe that the ongoing exercise of ridding our water bodies and forest zones of harmful equipment and machinery is unlawful and in some cases harsh. I strongly disagree, and I will advise those who take a contrary view to go to court to vindicate their position if they so wish. That is what the rule of law is all about” he said.
