The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has issued a vehement denial of allegations linking two flights at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to drug trafficking.
Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee and MP for Assin South, had claimed the flights carried illicit substances, but GACL’s thorough investigations found no evidence to support these assertions.
GACL emphasized that:
– Landing Permits: The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and National Security issue permits for incoming aircraft, not GACL.
– Security Inspections: Aviation Security and National Security personnel conduct comprehensive security checks on aircraft.
– Ground Handling Services: Swissport provides these services for arriving aircraft.
GACL’s Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, denied any involvement with Rev. Ntim Fordjour, stating she has “never met or had any communication” with him.
The company warned that it will pursue legal action to protect its reputation and that of its Managing Director, urging the public to disregard the “malicious and baseless” accusations.
