Speaking at the seventh edition of  The Accra Dialogue organized by the Institute of Law and Publica Affairs (ILPA) in partnership with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) at the University of Ghana last Wednesday, December 11, 2019, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte has commended the implementation of the Free Senior High School programme that seek to give the opportunity to as many young people as possible to go to school, however, “it is bad to see them [students] in places like concentration camps”.

Dr. Kpessa-Whyte who was given his opening address at the event on the topic “The Aborted 17th December Referendum: Justified? What Next?” firmly defended why he is of the view that it is dangerous to introduce partisan politics into the district level election citing the financial burden our partisan election poses on the people.

“The reason why I think is dangerous to elect MMDCs on partizan line is that as a country, we must cut our coat according to our size”

According to him, “our elections in this country are bring financed by taxpayers of some other country, we are talking about “Ghana Beyond Aid”

“We have schools that are still under trees. It’s good that we have implemented Free SHS to allow as many young people to get into schools as possible bad to see them [students] in places like concentration camps” – He added

For him, what the current way in which the Free SHS was implemented is that “we should deploy more resources to making our schools really a school, to making our schools’ really educational institutions so that  over time we perfect the delivery of social services”
