Franklin Cudjoe, the President of policy think tank Imani Africa, has called on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stay focused on its core mission—recovering funds allegedly stolen by individuals in the previous administration.
In a recent social media post, Cudjoe emphasized the importance of holding those accountable for the economic crimes committed during the past government, without allowing distractions to derail the process.
Cudjoe’s statement comes in the wake of the ongoing investigations into financial crimes allegedly committed under the previous government.
He pointed to a significant list of alleged wrongdoings that, in his view, are both extensive and provable.
“There is a tall list of alleged and some easily provable economic crimes under the previous government,” he stated, urging the current government to pursue justice relentlessly.
Highlighting a key moment when an apology was issued to Dr. Addison, following a raid, Cudjoe stressed the need for caution and thoroughness as the government proceeds with its investigation.
“An apology was rendered to Dr. Addison the same day the raid took place. Please let us proceed cautiously. We all want accountability, retrieval, and retribution,” he noted.
He warned the government to avoid distractions that could hinder progress in retrieving the country’s stolen funds, even if the process takes several years.
He firmly believes that the fight for accountability must remain at the forefront, with little room for error.
“The current government must not distract itself from the goal,” he said. “We need our money, even if it takes 5 to 6 years in some of the cases.”
As investigations continue and the Attorney General prepares to brief the media on the progress of various cases, the public waits to see how these high-profile financial crimes will unfold.
Will the government remain focused on delivering justice, or will external pressures create roadblocks to the recovery of Ghana’s funds? The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the outcome.
