Franklin Cudjoe, the president of Imani Africa, has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to take a more proactive role in combating corruption by conducting routine lifestyle audits across the country.

This plea comes in the wake of recent revelations surrounding the former head of the National Signals Bureau, whose illicit activities have raised serious questions about accountability and oversight in the country.

Cudjoe expressed his disbelief that despite the significant amount of money allegedly stolen, there was no visible scrutiny or suspicion from individuals close to the former bureau head or the wider system.

He noted that it is crucial for lifestyle audits to become a regular and mandatory process for public officials to ensure transparency and prevent the misappropriation of public funds.

“How can someone entrusted with the responsibility of serving the country steal so much and yet not attract any attention?” he questioned in his post.

He further emphasized the importance of routine audits, which would not only help detect corruption early but also serve as a deterrent for future malfeasance.

Franklin Cudjoe argued that there should be no waiting for a change in government before uncovering such cases of corruption.

Instead, the OSP must be empowered and supported to carry out these audits on a continual basis to ensure that those in positions of power are held to the highest standards of accountability.

Reflecting on the potential scale of corruption, he urged that thorough investigations should be conducted into the actions of more senior officials in previous governments. He believes that such probes could uncover even larger cases of misconduct.
