Former Communication Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has appealed to members of the Ghana Stammering Association (GSA) to forgive Mr. Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin notwithstanding his unguided statements against his person as a stammerer.

The Presidential Spokesperson for President Mahama made this [ads1]passionate appeal when he addressed the GSA at the Balme Library, University of Ghana – Legon and encouraged members of the association to work diligently towards achieving their goals.

The GSA gathering was also addressed by speakers including Dr. Nortey Dua who chaired the event, Mr. Rami Baitie a Consultant and a broadcaster, and Nana Akua Owusu, Speech and language therapist.

If readers can recall, somewhere in August this year, the flagbearer aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Alban Bagbin, was reported in the media to have slammed as bad former President John Mahama’s appointment of a stammerer [Dr. Omane Boamah] as Communications Minister and a “blind person” [Dr. Danaa] as Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs.

According to him, Dr Omane Boamah, who stammers; “wasted time” communicating to Ghanaians due to his disability.

He added further that the choice of Dr Seidu Danaa, who is visually impaired; as Chieftaincy Minister was also wrong because the Ghanaian culture does not allow one who is not “whole” to be made a chief.

This statements did not go down well not only with the disability community but the entire Ghanaian society including former President Rawlings who opening condemned the astute politician for his derogatory remarks.
