A one-year old baby girl has died due to a fire outbreak that engulfed two wooden structures in a house at Mataheko near the Mars Business School in Accra.
The charred body has been handed over to the Police who thereafter deposited the remains at the Korle-Bu morgue for preservation and further investigation.
Apart from the tragic death of the toddler, the incident was injury free.
“Fortunately, the other occupants in the affected structures escaped unhurt. The incident was without any firefighter injuries as well”.
In a Facebook post by the Greater Accra Regional PRO of the Ghana National Fire Service, the inferno which started around 3:17am on January 9 was brought under control after two pumps from the Regional Headquarters Sub-Station and Circle Fire Station were dispatched to fight the fire.
As part of precautionary measures to douse the fire, the first crew dispatched had to call on Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to temporarily isolate electricity power from the area.
According to the service, it took 42 minutes to douse the fire.
“The gallant firefighters prevented the heavy fire whose origin and cause is under investigation from gutting other adjoining structures”.

ONE PERSON REPORTED AFTER A STRUCTURE FIRE AT MATAHEKO IN ACCRA
2 pumps from the Regional Headquarters Sub-Station and Circle Fire Station were dispatched this dawn at 0317 hours to a heavy structure fire involving 2 domiciled wooden structures with House No A17/19-Akwei Bu at Mataheko near the Mars Business School in Accra.
The first Crew from the Regional Headquarters Sub-Station got to the fire scene in good time after dispatch and as a precaution, had to call on Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to temporarily isolate electricity power from the area. Firefighters after power isolation immediately started an aggressive exterior and interior attack on the fire to finally knock it out within 42 minutes.
Tragically, a one year old baby girl was lost to the inferno.
