Awake Sports can confirm that the national U17 team the Black Starlets of Ghana will receive $1,000 as winning bonus in the upcoming FIFA U17 World Cup to be staged in India.

The same amount was previously paid to the Black Starlets during the African Youth Championship in Gabon earlier this year.

In an interview with the Deputy Sports Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide, during the team’s farewell ceremony at the residence of the India High Commissioner, He said, “We are still going to maintain the $1,000 winning bonus paid to the team during the under 17 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

“We are hoping they win all their matches especially in the group phase so that they can get their qualification bonus.

The Black Starlets left the country today, September 12 for a pre-tournament camping in Dubai. The team will be based in Dubai for two weeks where they will be engaged in some international friendlies before moving to India.

Seven other countries including India will also be camping in Dubai during the pre-tournament camping.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 6 and end on October 28, 2017.

The Black Starlets will face off Columbia in their first group game. Ghana is in group A alongside host nation India, USA and Columbia.
