Family, friends, and fans will gather at the National Theatre today, April 5, to pay their final respects to celebrated Ghanaian actor Mawuli Semevo. The final burial rites will begin at 9:00am.
In honour of his legacy, the National Theatre of Ghana held a tribute event on Thursday, March 27, titled “Remembering Mawuli Semevo”. The event highlighted his immense contribution to the performing arts in Ghana.
Mawuli Semevo passed away on February 20 at the Ridge Hospital after suffering injuries from a tragic fire accident. Until his retirement, he served as the director of the Drama Company, one of the resident groups at the National Theatre.
He was widely respected for his powerful performances both on stage and in film. Some of his notable works include Harvest at 17, A Stab in the Dark, Escape of Love, Like Cotton Twines, and The Good Old Days: The Love of AA.
Today’s final farewell marks the end of a remarkable journey for a man whose talent and dedication left a lasting mark on Ghana’s creative arts scene.
