The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has withdrawn a number of level 100 students from the institution due to their poor academic performance.

This decision was made after an audit and querying of the students’ first and second-semester examination results for the 2023/2024 academic year.

According to a memo issued by the Acting Head of Department (HOD) of the Department of Social Studies Education, Dr. Mohanimed Adam, the affected students failed to meet the minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) requirement of 1.0 and/or failed more than the permissible number of courses after resits.

This is as stipulated in section 4.2.1 of the Revised Undergraduate Students Handbook (2019).

The memo, which was addressed to faculty members of the Department of Social Studies Education, stated that the affected students are ineligible to attend 200 level lectures or take part in the mid-semester and end-of-semester examinations for 200 level courses.

The university has therefore directed that appropriate measures be taken to reflect these changes in the course register.

The decision to withdraw the students is not unexpected, given the university’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards.

In recent years, UEW has implemented various measures to ensure that students meet the required academic thresholds. This includes the provision of counseling services to students who are struggling academically.

The withdrawal of the students is also a reminder of the importance of academic rigor and the need for students to take their studies seriously.

The full list of affected students, including their index numbers, names, and reasons for withdrawal, has been attached to the memo.
