Ending ‘Galamsey’: Clash between Chinese and Ghanaians left two injured from gunshots

A violent clash at a ‘galamsey’ site in Sekyere Krobo at the Asanti Region the between some Chinese nationals and some Ghanaian youth has left two unidentified persons severely injured from gunshot.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred after the Chinese refused an order from the youth of the town not to mine in their current site as they are allegedly operating illegally.

The exchanged of gunfire erupted between the two groups, after the Chinese refused a second order from the youth to vacate the site.

The incident which occurred on Friday, October 11, 2024 comes in reaction to calls to end Illegal mining commonly known as ‘galamsey’.

Meanwhile, the two persons are currently receiving treatment while the police have also commenced investigations into the matter.
