The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to build a multipurpose modern stadium in Bolgatanga if elected as President.
During his interaction with the media as part of his tour to the Upper East Region, the former President stated that the region had been blessed with lots of talent in diverse sporting activities, hence the need for a world-class facility.
Mr. Mahama said “[I will build] a modern sports stadium for Bolgatanga because through sports you can create jobs. We have a lot of talents here. We have the young Azuma Nelsons here. We have the young athletes here. We must have a modern stadium where they can practice and realize their full potential”.
He later took a swipe at the ruling government, describing their numerous artificial turfs as ‘two by four’. Mr. Mahama argued that the turfs lacked the capacity to serve various sporting activities and called on the people of the Upper East to vote massively for the NDC in order to see development in the region.
“We are not talking about the 2×4 stadiums that they are building in some places. We are talking about a modern stadium with all the facilities. But before that can happen, we need to win an election,” he said.
