Flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), John Dramani Mahama has embarked on a visit to the affected families of the political violence victims during December 7 elections in Techiman South and made a couple of donations.

Speaking with the families along with party members in Techiman South Zongo , he “sympathized with the bereaved families and other victims who were wounded. Elections in Ghana of the “forth republic that has been conducted under the auspices of the NDC has always been peaceful, transparent and fair. However it is the opposite under any NPP government, though Kuffour’s government handed over power but it was not without resistance for some time before conceding and handing over power to the late prof. John Fifii Attah Mills”,he cited.

Mr. Mahama stressed that, he and the party leadership deem it fit to commiserate with the victims and the affected families to show they share in their pain. They made a donation of GHS 5,000.00 to each of the families and the victims.

After spending time with them, he indicated, “I’m moving to Wenchi to visit those who were also affected by the unfortunate incident”.

He later took a swipe at the Electoral Commission chair person Mrs. Jean Mensa saying, her level of incompetence is monumental in the history of the Electoral Commission. He added that, how the election was conducted is problematic.

On December 9, 2020, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission declared Nana Akufo-Addo, the incumbent President and the Flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), as the winner of the elections. According to the commissioner, President Akufo-Addo polled 6,730,587 votes, which represents 51.302 percent of the total valid votes cast while Mr. Mahama also got 6,213,182 votes, representing 47.359 percent. Jean Mensa has not been able to get the figures of the polls right although it has been more than a week since the country went to the polls.

Meanwhile, a renowned Statistician Dr. Justice Moses Aheto a lecturer at the university of Ghana, Legon has challenged that there is no winner in the just ended polls per the EC figures. He stated, “proper computation with the figures of the EC will only produce a run-off of the election”.
