Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, has refuted claims that he tried to influence the Electoral Commission officials during the Ejisu by-election. The NPP MP was caught on camera dropping an envelope on a table for two temporary EC officials.
The video photo went viral leading to the EC’s decision to immediately dismiss the two temporary staff and start an investigation into the incident.
However, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko has denied the claims of bribery, claiming it was a goodwill gesture to the Electoral Commission officials. He told Joy News in an interview that he did not intend to influence the officials. The Kwadaso MP additionally stated that he does not feel bad because he committed no offence.
“I know that I have not influenced anybody. I have not influenced the process. I don’t feel bad because I know I have done nothing wrong. I know it is politics people are going to spin. You know we’ve been in this political game all this while and those who are spinning I don’t begrudge them, that is politics that is it.
“But me Kingsley Nyarko I am putting on record that I have not done anything whether overtly or covertly to influence the process,” he reiterated.
Reacting to calls for the police to invite him owing to the incident, Dr. Nyarko said if he is invited he will go with a clean heart because he has done nothing wrong.
“…I have done nothing to influence the process so if the IGP is being petitioned to invite me I am ready for him. I think when it gets there I know what I am going to talk about but no process has been undermined, nothing untoward has been done,”
