NPP National Organizer, Nana B said the party will win the Ejisu Constituency by-election

Henry Nana Boakye, the National organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed confidence that the party will win the forthcoming Ejisu Constituency by-election. Nana B was reacting to news that Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former MP of Ejisu is contesting as an independent candidate.

Speaking to Citi News, Nana B said, “Clearly, Ejisu is NPP and NPP is Ejisu…we do not see that any independent candidate can win the Ejisu Constituency. We have a vibrant and energetic lawyer and we are strategically positioning the party to win this hands down.”

Both the party’s national and regional executives are actively engaging in campaign activities throughout the Constituency. They are focused on winning the impending by-election and are confident in retaining the Ejisu Constituency Parliamentary seat.

Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, the independent candidate, said to be a nightmare for the NPP, aso believes he is winning the seat from his former party. Meanwhile, the NPP maintains that the former MP has next to nothing in the constituency in terms of developmental projects for his 12 years spent as an MP.

“The facts are there; under President Kufuor, he was appointed at the Ministry of Highways as a director. Under Nana Akufo-Addo he was appointed as a deputy minister of roads…NPP gave him the opportunity to be an MP for 12 good years,” Nana Boakey said.

Meanwhile, the former MP blamed the party’s undemocratic attitude in the constituency for his decision to go independent. A statement he released on April 12, 2024 to announce his decision tagged the late John Kumah as part of the genesis of the problem.

“The genesis of this decision traces back to the tumultuous Ejisu polling station executive elections, marred by irregularities that would have been deemed unacceptable in any democratic society,” a statement by his aide Nana Osei Bonsu said.

“Rather than adhering to the democratic process, the late MP of Ejisu, with the assistance of the Regional Executives of the NPP, arbitrarily handpicked individuals to fill key positions—a blatant disregard for the party’s constitution and its fundamental principles.

“Such actions have rightfully stirred vehement protests from conscientious party members and stakeholders across the nation. The issue has even found its way into the courts for adjudication, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the need for redress.

“Hon. Owusu-Aduomi’s decision to contest the by-election as an independent candidate underscores his unwavering commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring transparency and accountability within the party. By refusing to participate in an ostensibly flawed process, he sends a clear message that integrity and fairness must prevail, even at the expense of personal political aspirations.”
