Wonder Madilo, a prominent member of the NDC Communications Team, has sharply criticized Ghana’s former Finance Minister, accusing them of presiding over one of the most economically mismanaged periods in the country’s history.
During an appearance on GHOne TV, Madilo pointed to the dire state of key state institutions and financial systems, suggesting that the leadership’s decisions had led to a severe economic crisis.
He specifically called out the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), claiming that the institution is now burdened with debts that it has never previously experienced. “ECG, once a stable institution, is now drowning in debt,” he stated.
He also highlighted the financial struggles of the Bank of Ghana, which declared significant losses in a single year, something that alarmed many given the bank’s previous reputation for stability. “We’ve always known the Bank of Ghana to be stable or even profitable, but seeing such losses is troubling,” Madilo remarked.
Additionally, Madilo expressed concern over government contracts, claiming that huge sums of money had been allocated to projects that were either not completed or executed poorly.
He referenced the much-discussed hospital infrastructure initiative, stating that while the government promised to complete 111 hospitals, only four had been finished. “You promised 111 hospitals, and only four are complete. How much more do we need to finish them?” Madilo questioned.
Madilo attributed these financial mismanagements to a growing sense of public frustration, arguing that the reckless handling of the economy has led to a deep erosion of trust in the former finance minister.
“The level of recklessness in managing the economy is unprecedented, and it has left the public with little sympathy for the former minister,” he concluded.
