The Electoral Commission (EC) has admonished the public to be patient amidst awaiting the Presidential Election results.

The EC is currently collating election results at all the Constituency and Regional Collation Centres.

“The Commission’s staff and field officials are working round the clock to ensure that the collated results are accurate and a true reflection of the will of the people of Ghana who turned out in their numbers to vote on 7th December, 2020,” it stated in a statement.

This time round, the National Collation Centre in Accra is only receiving collated Presidential election results from 16 regions as opposed to results from 275 constituencies as has been the case in the past.

“As such, we urge the Public and Stakeholders to remain calm and patient,” the EC noted.

The EC also said it will release all the certified results as soon as they are received and reminded that “it remains the sole and legally mandated body to declare Presidential elections results in Ghana.”

“As such, Candidates, their supporters, the media and public are urged to desist from declaring Presidential election results as this is in contravention of the law and a threat to the peace and stability of the nation,” it added.

The commission had promised to announce the results 24 hours after the close of polls.

The National Democratic Congress, in particular, was doubtful  of the EC’s 24-hour target.

The Commission said it had introduced more efficient measures which will facilitate the declaration of election results within 24 hours..

Results were declared two days after the close of polls in the 2016 election.
