The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed claims by the Electoral Commission (EC) that its voters’ register is robust and credible, describing the commission’s assertions as a “farce”.
The party further alleged that the EC intentionally transferred voters to different constituencies without their knowledge, which, according to them, contradicts the EC’s claims of genuine mistakes.
At a press conference in Accra, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairman of the commission, admitted that his office had made some errors in the voters’ register but denied allegations that it planned to give the ruling New Patriotic Party an advantage in the December elections.
“Preliminary investigations revealed voter transfers were effected for 38 individuals using an EC Official’s credentials… It’s absolutely untrue that the Commission added names to rig elections for a particular party,” he stated
In response, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, argued that, “The EC did a similar thing during the proxy window… Nobody went through biometric processes… I told them it’s illegal.”
Speaking on TV3’s “Ghana Tonight”, Dr. Tanko-Computer stated, “The EC should praise the NDC for exposing discrepancies rather than defending the register’s integrity.”
“They knew about the issues but chose to issue statements defending the register’s credibility. Today, they’ve accepted their guilt, but instead of congratulating us, they’re talking about a robust register.
“How can you call a register robust and credible when your people are illegally transferring voters?” Dr. Tanko-Computer asked, emphasizing that the EC’s claims were “farce”.
