The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) on claims that it has resolved all the discrepancies with the voter register raised by the NDC.
Speaking during a meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders on Monday, September 23, 2024, Dr. Omane remarked that the attitude of the EC erodes transparency, and free and fair elections ahead of 2024.
According to him, the claim that the EC has resolved all the irregularities is a deliberate attempt by it to twist the verdict of the Ghanaian voter. He lamented the entrenched position taken by the EC without considering a peaceful election come December.
He added that failure on the part of the EC to release the final voters register despite the NDC’s multiple requests for it shows there are more damming issues with the register.
He reiterated that the EC is orchestrating a last-minute release of the register to prevent the NDC from properly assessing it.
He said “The EC has not released the final voter’s register to the political party, but it claims it has resolved all our (NDC) concerns without knowing them.
“But they can’t start printing the register without giving us a copy. I feel they are afraid to release the register to us because they don’t know what more discrepancies we will expose” he noted.
