The Educate Africa Institute (EAI) has praised former President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to abolish the teacher licensure examination and integrate the licensing process into the final year examinations of teacher trainees if he is elected as President.

During the launch of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2024 manifesto in Winneba, Mr. Mahama outlined 30 educational policies, including a reformed teachers’ licensure system. This proposal has been a long-standing advocacy of the EAI, which believes it will address the challenges faced by teacher trainees under the existing system.

William Boadi, spokesperson for the institute, stated that “We welcome John Mahama’s commitment to reform the licensure process, which has been flawed since its introduction in 2018. We will hold the next administration accountable to ensure this policy is implemented, creating a system that truly supports the future of education in Ghana.”

The EAI has further urged the former President to move beyond political rhetoric to real, actionable change if he is given the nod to lead the country. Mr. Boadi added that the teaching community will be watching closely to ensure that the NDC fulfills its commitment if it wins the December 7 elections.
