Speaking on JoyNews, the Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu disclosed that the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has threatened to cut off gas supplies from Nigeria to Ghana by September 6, 2024.

The lawmaker explained that the government’s significant debt to the company is the reason behind the intended supply cut. According to him, Ghana’s debt to WAPCo exceeds $12 million.

He indicated that, “That is a threat we are facing, if we do not pay this $12 million by the 7th of September, they will shut down the pipeline completely for both gas from Nigeria and reverse flow of gas from the West to Tema.”

In other developments, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Finance have been summoned to appear in Parliament to address urgent issues regarding the growing judgment debt between Ghana and the oil giant Trafigura.
