Residents of the Ashanti Region have been dealing with frequent power outages, disrupting both businesses and households. The situation worsened on Sunday, March 16, when a widespread blackout affected many areas, causing significant frustration.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, acknowledged the growing pressure from residents demanding quick action, noting that some have blamed sabotage or other factors for the outages.

In response, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, visited the region to meet with stakeholders in the power sector.

He explained that the current crisis stems from a weak power sector inherited by the administration. Jinapor highlighted efforts by GRIDCo to stabilize the supply with new transformers and ongoing work by ECG to improve power distribution in the region, with hopes for significant improvements soon.
