Drama unfolded in Gomoa Awombrew, a town in the Gomoa Central constituency, when a truck carrying suspected stolen Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cables broke down.
The incident has led to the arrest of the truck driver and his assistant, with the police calling for a thorough investigation.
According to Kwame Asare-Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, the residents of Gomoa Awombrew alerted the Swedru Divisional Police Command after suspecting that the cargo might be linked to the missing ECG items.
“The authorities are doing their job, and I am hopeful that this will lead to a full investigation,” A Plus stated in a Facebook post.
The police, with the help of ECG officials, inspected the cargo and found that the driver was unable to provide clear details about the goods’ origin or destination.
The waybill was also deemed suspicious. After further checks, ECG officials confirmed that the cables matched their missing stock.
The incident has raised concerns about the theft of ECG goods and the need for a thorough investigation.
A Plus has called for the police to get to the bottom of the matter and bring those responsible to justice.
