Ghana FA Cup champions Dreams FC are in action today against Egyptian giants Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final. The Ghanaian club has so far pushed beyond expectations as their roller coaster journey in the competition continues.
Playing in the competition for the first time, the Karim Zito-led side is the team to watch after they defied all logic to reach the semi-finals, the first for a Ghanaian club since 2004.
The Dawu-based club topped Group C after winning four out of six matches to set a quarter-final date with Stade Malien. A 3-2 aggregate win thanks to a 1-2 away victory ensured their progression to face the Egyptians.
Dreams FC have only failed to score on one occasion throughout their journey in the Confederation Cup. Their formidable home form has also been crucial as they are yet to lose a match on Ghanaian soil. After the first leg in Egypt today, they will host the Egyptians and one time former champions in Kumasi a week later.
Zamalek have also been impressive this season in Africa. They have only lost one of their 8 matches in the competition this season. They reached the semi-finals with a 3-2 aggregate win over Modern Future. Zamalek is also struggling in the Egyptian Premier League just like Dreams FC is struggling the Ghana Premier League. They have, however, picked momentum recently, winning 3 of their last 5 matches.
The Ghanaians, meanwhile, have only picked one win from their last matches in the Ghanaian Premier League. They, however, got a win in the last match prior to their trip to Egypt.
The match is at 4:00 PM today and will be live on GTV Sports Plus in Ghana.
