At the meet the Press last week, a questioner wanted to know from the President if he will agree with the minority to open up an independent probe into the thievery that has gone on with the establishment of an embassy in Norway.
The president answered that the Minister of Foreign Affaires, Hon Shirley Ayokor Botchway will not allow him to speak to the issue so she should come forward and answer the question. So, now the Hon. Ayokor Botchway is the one who tells the President what to say and what to not say? The foreign minister took the microphone and started her blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
After she had finished speaking, the President gave three reasons why he doesn’t support any independent investigation into the sister of all corruptions:
1. The President said no monies had exchanged hands and that the government of Ghana has not lost any money. The veteran lawyer, Akufo Addo is trying to make the nonsense of the law which states “stealing and attempting to steal” are equally guilty before the law. We are not kids, Mr. President.
2. If he has to act on allegations and investigates his appointees, he, the President will get not his work done and these same minorities will turn around and accuse him of not doing anything. Question: Isn’t the constitution clear that the legislature also acts as the oversight body over the Executive? So why is the President complaining?
3. If he has to act on allegations and investigates his appointees, the charge of corruption by the minority is going to get worse. The question is, if we get there, na who cause am? Who first brought the sugar cane to the house?
Let me give you a scenario to get you to understand what is going on. Let us say you (the NDC) walk to your house and saw someone (Foreign Minister) breaking into your house. You called the police (The government) to arrest the house breaker. (Foreign Minister) The police came and asked you whether the person was able to break into your house or was any money stolen? You answered no, but you want the police to investigate why the person attempted to break into your house and steal or kill. At this point, the police told you since the person didn’t steal anything from your house, there was no need to investigate. The police added that if you continue to call him anytime someone attempted to break into your house, he can’t get his job done. What message is the police sending to the house breaker standing near by?
Fellow Ghanaians, Nana Addo who was sold to us as someone who is not corrupt and cannot be corrupted, is now fighting people who are fighting against corruption in his government. “The elder who supervises the children eating Python, is also a python eater,” right? With the presence of his ministers and he, Nana Addo, telling the world that he will not investigate his corrupt officials because allegations against them by the NDC is going to get worse, did Nana Addo not know that he has emboldened his appointees to steal? Should I be the person to tell him this? Clearly, Nana Akufo Addo has demonstrated beyond every reason doubt that he cannot fight corruption in Ghana. He is equally a python eater. Just name one ministry that has not been hit by a corruption scandal?
Many people, including maybe you, who voted for Nana Addo in 2016 because you thought he was coming to fight corruption in Ghana should be disappointed. The Norway scandal has gravelly exposed Nana Addo as a corrupt individual, who is determined to fight anyone or organized body who tries to expose corruption in this government. Some few months ago, I thought the 111 family and friends ministers, who have nothing doing will send the NPP to opposition but the Norway scandal has come to take its place. NPP is going straight to opposition and nothing is stopping them.
By the way, wasn’t Mrs Charlotte Osei, the Former EC boss, fired for a flimsy allegation?
