In an effort to foster a cordial relationship between the government and local rulers, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to pay allowances to chiefs and queen mothers nationwide.
Addressing supporters in Takoradi during the party’s manifesto launch on August 18, 2024, the Vice President emphasized that the initiative recognizes and supports the vital roles traditional leaders play in Ghana’s development.
The announcement has been met with widespread excitement and gratitude from traditional authorities, who have long advocated for such recognition.
Dr. Bawumia explained that the allowances will not only acknowledge their contributions but also empower them to continue serving their communities effectively.
He added that this bold initiative demonstrates the next NPP government’s commitment to honoring Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
