The Chief Justice, Justice Anim Yeboah has petitioned the General Legal council to investigate former Deputy Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine over comments he made about the 2020 general election petition.

This, incidentally, was a webinar discussion organized by CDD-Ghana, in collaboration with the KNUST law faculty, as part of a new “Judicial Review” series (a partnership between CDD and two law faculties in Ghana) that aims to review and examine decisions of the courts for their impact on democracy and good governance. The panel was to examine the 2020 election petition through a comparative lens, it featured two foreign participants (from Kenya and Zimbabwe), four Ghanaian lawyers, including Dr. Ayine.

However, the Chief Justice on 25th May 2021 wrote to the General Legal Council Disciplinary Committee to investigate the former Deputy Attorney General.

In the petition, the Chief Justice indicated that Dr. Ayine questions the independence of the Judiciary due to the manner the supreme court adjudicated the 2020 election petition and why the court failed to apply the rules of procedure as well as the consistent dismissal of the petitioner’s applications or relief were the basis of his comments.
