Government’s commitment to enhancing its School Feeding Programme (SFP) has been revitalized, with a focus on providing better nutrition and ensuring timely payments for caterers. This renewed dedication was solidified during a high-level meeting between Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and the new Country Representative of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Ms. Aurore Rusiga.
At the forefront of this initiative is the government’s decision to increase the daily feeding rate from 1 cedi per child to 2 cedis, a move aimed at addressing the current system’s inadequacies.
Additionally, the government has allocated a substantial 1.78 billion cedis to the programme this year, recognizing the need for further investment to amplify its impact.
The WFP has pledged to enhance its support for Ghana’s school feeding efforts, with plans to introduce fortified rice to improve meal nutrition.
In collaboration with the World Bank and the Government of Ghana, the WFP will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the SFP to ensure its efficiency and sustainability.
Dr. Ato Forson’s meeting with Ms. Rusiga underscored the importance of timely payments to caterers, with the government reaffirming its commitment to addressing this critical Undoubtedly , by fostering a collaborative environment, the government, WFP, and other stakeholders can work together to secure a good future for our children, strengthening the foundation of the country’s education system.
