Dr. Apaak who has reiterated his commitment to supporting education in the Builsa South Constituency has set up a committee towards achieving that vision.

According to a report from the Committee, the MP has so far, spent One Hundred and Seventy-Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC107, 000) on school fees and other educational needs of a total of 295 brilliant but needy tertiary and Senior High School Students since he assumed office two years ago.

In 2018 135 students were sponsored by Dr. Apaak to the tune of GHC50, 100 and GH¢56,000 has been budgeted for school fees this year.

The Committee disclosed that an initial number of 179 applications were received but increased to 193 with the addition of 14 students on a supplementary list and out of this number, 160 applicants have been shortlisted for support.

The report further revealed, out of the beneficiaries, 120 students were from the tertiary institutions while the remaining 40 were from the second cycle institutions.

Out of this number, 95 are females while the remaining 65 are males.

The payment of the school fees was to provide relief for the students and their parents. And this is not the first time Dr Apaak has shown commitment towards education in his constituency.

Secretary to the Committee, Thomas Ananbiak in an interview, he noted that many of the tertiary students in the constituency have difficulties mobilising funds to pay their fees hence the support.

He affirmed Dr. Apaak’s commitment towards education with his top priority being to mobilise the needed resource to assist and improve the quality of teaching and learning in the constituency and to bring relief to parents.

He bemoaned how some Primary Schools in the area lack adequate furniture which is hampering quality teaching and learning but was optimistic that with the support of the MP the constituency would soon overcome it.

A member of the committee, Richard Kazi explained the criteria for the selection of the beneficiaries which he said was decentralized without any interferences.

He commended Dr. Apaak for his continuous support and called on legislators in other constituencies in the  Upper East Region to prioritize education in order to empower the youth in the region.

Last year, the Builsa South lawmaker renovated Kunkwak KG classroom block in Gbedema, Abaayire KG classroom in Butriensa, Gobsa KG in Gobsa, Uwasi primary in Uwasi and Uwasi primary teachers’ quarters.

He also donated motorbikes to the office of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in his constituency and the funded the maintenance of the office’s pick-up vehicle.
