In a bold and controversial move, Ashanti Region Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has used his personal social media platform to deliver a message to Asanteman that has stirred significant public debate.

The video, posted on his TikTok account, has already garnered over 365,000 views, 40.4K likes, and 980 comments, signaling a massive public engagement with his message.

However, what has fueled the backlash is not just the content of his post but also his decision to align himself with outspoken media personality, Kevin Taylor, a known critic of the Ashanti kingdom.

In the video, Dr. Amoakohene used a voice recording of Kelvin Taylor, who has made repeated insults against Otumfou Osei Tutu II and the Ashanti people, to broadcast his message to Manhyia, the seat of the Asantehene.

Dr. Amoakohene’s use of Taylor’s voice has been perceived by many as a direct endorsement of Taylor’s controversial statements. These include past attacks against the Asantehene, local chiefs, and the Ashanti people.

The decision to publicly associate with a figure who has continuously demeaned Ashanti leadership and culture is seen by critics as an unprecedented act of disrespect.

The backlash has not been limited to this incident alone. Kevin Taylor, the target of much public disdain, recently escalated tensions by insulting the Ashanti youth, especially in the aftermath of the tragic fire at PZ Blue Light Lane in Kumasi Adum, where many local businesses were destroyed.

Kevin Taylor’s comments targeting the youth have further inflamed sentiments within the region, with some viewing it as an attempt to undermine Ashanti pride.

While the regional minister’s TikTok activity is not a new development—he has been active on the platform since his appointment by former President John Dramani Mahama—it has certainly attracted heightened attention.

Despite the growing criticism from netizens urging him to leave social media, Dr. Amoakohene has firmly stated that he has no intention of stepping back from his online presence.

His response to detractors was clear: he will not be silenced by those calling for him to exit social media.
