The Ghana Education Service has directed heads of Senior High Schools not to recall the SHS 3 students who are on holiday to return to school purposely for the ongoing WASSCE registration exercise. According to the GES, the students should be allowed to have their holidays and register later when they resume school in mid-April.

Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director General of GES made this known while addressing the press in Accra this week. He said SHS form 3 students will be given enough time to complete the registration exercise for the the 2024 WASSCE.

“We want to say unequivocally that no student should be asked to come back to school to complete the WASSCE registration. The reason is that by the time they come back to school on 17th April, they will have enough time to be able to complete their registration.”

The GES director said, recalling students from their holidays will inconvenience those that stay far from their schools. He thus warned heads of schools against any such attempts.

“So headmasters should note that no student should be asked to come back to school because we know that some of them are living far away and are enjoying their vacations at home – so they are not expected to come back to school to complete the registration until school reopens on 17th of April.”

Meanwhile, government will absorb the WASSCE registration fee for all students under the government’s Free SHS programme.

All students with our government secondary schools under the Free SHS programme are not required to pay that GH₵465 because that money is already absorbed by the Free SHS programme,” Dr. Nkansah announced.
