President Akufo-Addo has cautioned representatives of foreign countries and organizations resident in the country against interfering in Ghana’s internal affairs.

The President gave the warning when he met the press to account for his stewardship after three years in office.

Answering a question posed to him by Mr Kwasi Pratt about recent statements by some ambassadors on corruption in his administration, the President said the ambassadors action demonstrated serious and unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of Ghana. According to the President Ghana reserves the right to be insulated from suggestions and or interference with respect to wholly internal affairs and asked the ambassadors to respect the international laws, customs and norms that mandate and require nations and the comity to respect this prerogative to all.

The Ambassadors of Netherlands, Denmark, The United States, Australia and some reputable foreign organizations resident in Ghana have warned the Akufo-Addo government that if appropriate action is not taken to address the high rate and perception of corruption in the administration and the public sector in general, investor confidence in the economy may erode.

Their comments came in the wake of the 2019 Afrobarometer report which shows widespread perception of corruption in government. According to the ambassadors the current level of corruption creates a worrying business climate for any investor coming in, hence affecting his or her confidence in the economy.

President Akufo-Addo in 2016, told Ghanaians was incorruptible and promised he will weed out corruption if elected. But his administration is rated among the most corrupt administrations on the continent of Africa.
