Security Analyst Colonel Festus Aboagye (Rtd) has urged the government to exercise caution in its approach to resolving the ongoing conflict in Bawku.
His warning comes after the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, announced plans to offer special recruitment opportunities for the youth in the region.
During an appearance on The Key Points on TV3, Colonel Aboagye cautioned that promises made in volatile situations should be carefully considered, as unfulfilled commitments could erode trust in state authority.
He expressed concern over the premature nature of the IGP’s remarks, stressing that offering security-related incentives might create unrealistic expectations, especially in regions where tensions are high.
The IGP’s comments, made during his recent visit to Bawku, promised priority recruitment for the youth in the area.
While his intentions were to foster goodwill, Colonel Aboagye warned that such statements, if unfulfilled, could set a dangerous precedent and exacerbate existing challenges.
In his caution, Colonel Aboagye emphasized the need for strategic and well-considered communication when addressing long-term security issues to avoid further complicating an already delicate situation.
