Western Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Takoradi, Dr Kwabena Okyere Darkoh Mensah has counselled electorates not to vote for illiterates and persons who are deaf and dumb.

According to the MP, the work at the law-making house requires someone who can speak and make a good case for his constituents.

Speaking at a youth program at Sekondi organized by the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Egyapa Mercer, the Regional Minister said it will be disastrous to vote for someone who cannot speak.

“Parliament is not Meant for illiterates, deaf and dumb as well as a thief”, he shouted amidst applauds from his colleague MP for Sekondi.

In what was believed to be a dig at the National Democratic Congress Parliamentary candidate for Sekondi, the Minister alleged that the NDC candidate also has a criminal record.

Meanwhile, executives of the NDC in the Sekondi constituency have called on the MP and Minister to apologized to persons with disability.

In a statement, the executives describe the Minister’s statement as distasteful and uncalled for.
