Former Member of Parliament for Builsa North constituency, Timothy Ataboadey Awontirim, has slammed the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for not being serious in his campaign for the 2024 general elections.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia has focused his campaign on addressing electricity-related issues in the country.

In an interview with Joy Prime’s Roselyn Felli on Prime Morning, he raised serious concerns about the campaign strategies being adopted by the new flagbearer of the NPP.

“If today you are still talking about ‘dumsor’ economies, you have started on a bad note. The elections this year are going to be based on policies,” he stated.

He added that there’s indeed a perceived lack of communication, policy clarity, and wrong messaging within the NPP.

He reiterated that the essence of a more focused and pragmatic approach is to sink well with the ordinary and secure electoral success for the party.

He also pointed out a situation of inconsistent messaging, insufficient details on key policy proposals, and strong interaction with grassroots soldiers.

He underscored the need for a comprehensive and well-coordinated effort to build public trust and effectively convey the party’s vision to the electorate.

“It’s child’s play; the people of Ghana have gone beyond the ‘Dumsor’ economy. Bawumia must be a serious candidate. Bawumia should take the people of Ghana seriously; attacking John Mahama is not part of your policy.”

He further raised concerns regarding decision-making and policy implementation during Bawumia’s administration, detailing skepticism about his ability to effectively rule at the zenith level.

“I believe that having been in power for the past seven to eight years, he should have known the policies he’s going out with; he does not even need a manifesto. He came into power, giving the people high hopes and policies that he thought he could implement. He was a master of his own,” he stressed.

He insisted that it would be better for Dr. Bawumia to roll out concrete ideas to alleviate his chances of ascending to the highest office in the land.

“Tell us why we should vote for you; tell us about the new ideas you are bringing; don’t start as if you are campaigning to become an SRC president.”
