According to Solomon Owusu, President Akufo-Addo assured victory for Owusu Aduomi by repeating the statement that made Andrew Asiamah beat the NPP to the Fomena seat.
President Akufo-Addo who was speaking at the last rally of the NPP in Ejisu stated that the party has power till midnight of January 6, 2025. He said that as a result he remains the President and will only work with Members of Parliament who are aligned with NPP.
The President appeared bereft of confidence and lacked the usual furnace that characterized his speeches at rallies before he became President. Observers are pointing fingers at his government’s failures as the cause of his low confidence.
As usual, the President did not leave the stage without reminding the people that he has the ultimate power to share projects. He intimated that every road in the country is constructed on his orders and that he is responsible for which roads are constructed.
However, Solomon Owusu said the President failed to add that he was also responsible for all the reconstructed roads including those in bad shape such as those in the Ejisu constituency.
He claimed that political watchers and voters who listened to the President’s speech are of the view that it will lead to the NPP losing hugely in the Ejisu bye-election slated for April 30.
According to him, it was this same reckless statement that caused the NPP to lose the Fomena seat, later forcing the party to humble themselves and offer the 2nd Deputy Speaker position to Andrew Asiamah. That was regardless of the President’s stern declaration that he won’t work with him.
He added that a section of Ghanaians believe the statement authored by the President is similar to what was made by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Asenso Boakye. The Roads Minister said no Independent Member of Parliament can lobby for any road project from him. Owusu Aduomi responded that the minister’s statement was made out of ignorance.
The people of Ejisu have their destinies in their own hands to right the wrongs of yesterday by voting for competence and a candidate with integrity.
“The President who is on his way out of power has set a bad precedence that any future President if not Christ-like will deny constituents of development if their members of parliament are not from the same party. This calls for the voters in Ejisu to call the bluff of the President just like what the people of Fomena did and let’s see what he can do,” he stated.
