The former aide to former President John Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has said that the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) has for the first time elected the worst presidential candidate in the history of the party.
The governing NPP on Saturday, November 4, elected Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2024 polls.
Mr. Bawumia secured 118,210 votes in the presidential race, which had 204,144 delegates casting their ballots.
Over the years, the Vice President has lambasted former President John Mahama for his abysmal failure to fix the economy of the country during his administration.
“You have presided for eight years over the collapse of our economy. If you knew the plan that would work for the economy and be successful, why haven’t you implemented that plan in eight years?” the Vice President quizzed.
In response to the Vice President’s statement, Mr. Kwakye indicated that Mr. Bawumia’s own words in the past will be his downfall, adding that the self-acclaimed economic wizard has rather propelled the country into economic hardship as Dr. Bawumia is the head of the economic management team.
“NPP delegates have elected the worst NPP presidential candidate ever. Nearly 40% of NPP folks do not like him, and rightly so, because his own words of the past will be his undoing,” Mr. Ofosu said in a tweet.
