Security analyst Emmanuel Kotin has raised significant concerns regarding the leadership of former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, pointing to several issues he believes weakened the Ghana Police Service during Dampare’s tenure.

Kotin criticized several key decisions made under Dampare’s leadership, including the dissolution of the department responsible for collecting crime statistics, leaving the country without vital data to guide policy and security planning.

He also highlighted the mismanagement of the police’s cyber security unit, which, despite efforts to secure international funding, remained inactive.

Further, Kotin raised concerns over the mismanagement of the police welfare fund, designed to support officers, particularly during peacekeeping missions.

He also referred to the serious extra-judicial killing allegations that emerged within the police force, emphasizing the lack of decisive action from Parliament despite the gravity of the situation.

In conclusion, Kotin suggested that Dampare’s removal was an essential step for the future of the police service, asserting that the former IGP had become “untouchable” within the force, thus limiting accountability.
